Yearly Colorectal Cancer Screening

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness month, and even though we’re in the middle of a strange time, it’s still important to get screened. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the United States, and it affects both men and women.

Medicare covers a prostate specific antigen (PSA) test once every 12 months for men over 50 years old, and also covers a variety of other colorectal cancer screenings (colonoscopies, blood tests etc) for men and women; some of which won’t cost you any copays or coinsurance.

Be proactive! It’s important to talk with your doctor about different screenings, what your options are, and if you’re at risk for this disease or other diseases. Being proactive and knowledgeable about colorectal cancer may help prevent a polyp from turning into cancer with early detection. Stay informed and continue to be your best advocate for yourself.

 Be well!
